Dr Sam Merriel is an NHS GP in North West England and Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research at the University of Manchester. Dr Merriel leads the Manchester Primary care Cancer research Team (MPaCT) and is Deputy lead of the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Theme in the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. His main research interests are the early detection and prevention of cancer, understanding and addressing cancer inequalities, and the evaluation and implementation of new diagnostic tests in primary care. He has served on prostate cancer expert reference groups for NICE, NHS England, Movember and Prostate Cancer UK.
